What Is Deionization & Why It Matters for Your Business
Deionization (DI) is a water purification process that removes virtually all dissolved minerals and ions from water. It works by passing water through two types of ion exchange resin — cation resin that removes positively charged ions (calcium, magnesium, sodium) and anion resin that removes negatively charged ions (chloride, sulfate, bicarbonate).
The result is ultra-pure water with near-zero conductivity — measured in megohms of resistivity. For comparison, tap water typically measures 0.001-0.01 megohms. DI water can reach 18.2 megohms — the theoretical maximum for pure water.
