NSID draws from the Biscayne and Floridan Aquifers through 11 raw water wells and, after a 2023 expansion, runs both nanofiltration and reverse osmosis at up to 10 million gallons per day. It disinfects with chlorine and ammonia — chloramine — which its 2024 water quality report logged at an average of 3.66 ppm with a range of 1.0 to 4.0 ppm. Coconut Creek and Parkland Utilities each treat and blend differently again. That matters for two reasons: nanofiltered water can arrive noticeably softer than the county average, and chloramine at that level is not removed by a softener at all.

So the sizing question in Parkland is never “how big a softener does a 5,000 sq ft house need”. It is what your measured hardness, iron and chloramine numbers are at the meter, and how many fixtures can run at once.

What a Parkland installation day looks like:

1. Free on-site water test with written results — hardness in grains per gallon, chloramine or free chlorine residual, TDS, iron and pH, taken at your tap.
2. Provider check. We confirm whether you are on NSID, Coconut Creek or Parkland Utilities, because a nanofiltered NSID supply and a lime-softened municipal supply call for different grain capacity and a different carbon stage.
3. Sizing. Grain capacity is set from measured hardness, household size and fixture count. Most Parkland homes land at 48,000–64,000 grains, and homes with six or more bathrooms and simultaneous demand get a twin-tank setup so soft water never runs out mid-regeneration.
4. Location and drain plan. In Parkland that is usually the garage wall or an exterior equipment pad. In Heron Bay, MiraLago, Cascata and Parkland Golf & Country Club, equipment visible from the street needs HOA architectural review — we prepare that paperwork and can screen or garage-mount the unit to meet the community standard.
5. Install. Bypass loop, shutoffs, brine line, drain with an air gap, and a sediment pre-filter where the plumbing calls for one. Permitted and plumbed to code. Most single-family installs run three to five hours.
6. Commissioning. We run a manual regeneration, retest treated water in front of you, and set reserve capacity to your household’s real usage.
7. Walkthrough. Salt type and fill level, bypass operation, service interval, and what to call about.

Pairing matters here more than in most cities. A softener removes calcium and magnesium; it does nothing to the chloramine residual, and chloramine is what most Parkland homeowners are actually tasting in drinking water and ice.
