Commercial Water Softener Rebed & Rebedding Service

Your commercial softener tank and valve are fine — it's the resin inside that wears out. Rebedding replaces the exhausted resin media, restoring your system to full performance at a fraction of the cost of a new system.

What Is a Water Softener Rebed?

A water softener “rebed” — also called “rebedding” — means replacing the resin media inside your existing water softener tank. The resin is the material that actually does the work: tiny beads of ion exchange resin that swap hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) for sodium ions as water passes through.

Over time — typically 5-12 years for commercial systems — that resin degrades. The beads break down, lose their exchange capacity, and eventually can't soften water effectively anymore. When that happens, you don't need a whole new system. You need a rebed.

Rebedding keeps your existing tank, valve head, plumbing connections, and brine tank in place. We drain the tank, remove the old resin, clean and inspect the internals, install fresh commercial-grade resin, and reprogram the system. Your softener is back to full capacity — at 50-70% less than the cost of a complete replacement.

Signs Your Commercial Softener Needs Rebedding

Don't wait until equipment is damaged. These are the early warning signs that your resin is exhausted.

Hard Water Spots Returning

If you're seeing white scale on fixtures, equipment, or glassware again despite having a softener, the resin inside may be exhausted and no longer exchanging minerals effectively.

Salt Usage Changes

A sudden increase or decrease in salt consumption can indicate resin degradation. Exhausted resin can't hold as many minerals, throwing off your regeneration cycles.

Failed Soft Water Test

If a hardness test shows elevated levels in your treated water, the resin bed is the most likely culprit — especially if the system is 5+ years old.

Resin Age (5-12 Years)

Commercial softener resin typically lasts 5-12 years depending on water hardness and usage volume. South Florida's aggressive water chemistry (14-22 GPG) shortens resin life toward the lower end.

Rebed vs. Full System Replacement

Not every softener problem requires a new system. Here's how to know which option makes sense for your business.

Rebed Makes Sense When:

  • Tank is structurally sound (no cracks or corrosion)
  • Valve head is functioning properly
  • System is properly sized for your current needs
  • Plumbing connections are in good condition
  • Only the resin is degraded or exhausted

Typical cost: 50-70% less than replacement

Replace Makes Sense When:

  • Tank is corroded, cracked, or leaking
  • Valve head is malfunctioning or obsolete
  • System is undersized for current water demand
  • You need to upgrade capacity or efficiency
  • Multiple components have failed simultaneously

Our Rebedding Process

Professional resin replacement — typically completed in 2-3 hours with minimal disruption.

1

Drain & Remove Old Resin

We drain the tank, vacuum out all degraded resin media, and inspect the tank interior and distribution system for any damage or obstruction.

2

Clean & Inspect Tank

The tank, riser tube, and distribution basket are thoroughly cleaned and inspected. We verify there are no cracks, corrosion, or structural issues before installing new media.

3

Install New Resin

High-capacity commercial-grade ion exchange resin is installed at the correct volume for your tank size and hardness level. We use 10% crosslink resin for South Florida's chloramine-treated water.

4

Regenerate & Test

The system is regenerated, programmed for your water hardness and usage, and tested. We verify 0-grain hardness in the treated water before we leave.

South Florida Hard Water (14-22 GPG) — Why Commercial Softeners Work Harder Here

South Florida has some of the hardest water in the country. Palm Beach County municipal water typically tests at 14-22 grains per gallon (GPG) — well into the “very hard” category. For businesses on well water, hardness can exceed 25 GPG.

That means your commercial softener is processing significantly more minerals per gallon than a system in most other states. Higher hardness means more frequent regeneration cycles, more salt consumption, and faster resin degradation. Add in chloramine-treated municipal water — which is harder on resin than standard chlorine — and South Florida commercial softeners typically need rebedding 20-30% sooner than the national average.

This is why we use 10% crosslink resin for all South Florida installations. Standard 8% crosslink resin breaks down faster under chloramine exposure. The 10% crosslink costs slightly more upfront but lasts significantly longer in our water conditions — a smarter investment for commercial operations.

Called three companies before SWS. They were the only ones who tested our water BEFORE trying to sell us anything. That honesty earned our business immediately.

Amanda F.

After their specialist came out and analyzed our water, we installed the whole-home RO. The difference is immediately noticeable — water tastes completely different and our skin has been less dry.

Michael R.

They came the same day I called, tested our water, and had a quote within an hour. Install was clean and fast. No upselling, no pressure. Just honest service.

Carol T.

I was skeptical about the financing but they walked me through everything. 0% for 12 months, system installed the next day. Best home improvement we’ve ever made.

David M.

Our Wellington water was destroying our fixtures. SWS installed a softener and whole-home filter — no more white spots, no more chemical smell. Should have done this years ago.

Lisa M.

We have well water in The Acreage with terrible sulfur smell. Their AirGuard system completely eliminated it. Our water is crystal clear now.

Commercial Softener Rebed FAQ

Common questions about commercial water softener rebedding.
